Hi, My husband and I are planning to move out of Miami, Florida to perhaps live in San Andres Colombia, but I have not been there. My husband is from medellin and he said it was really nice and that it would be a great life style. Can anyone tell me or give me any information? It seems that all the information I can find on the Internet is for temporaty stays and tours for vacation. I need to know the day to day life information for permanent stay: housing, jobs, people, economy ect... Maybe someone can help me figure out if moving to San Andres would be a wise idea for a person who has never been anywhere but Florida. Thanks! I would really appreciate any information.

I think it would be an excellent idea for you to visit the Island for a month or so to get a feel. Since you'll have to flying through Panama or the Mainland of Colombia to get there you might plan on spending some time in those places too.Check out the Mary May Inn on San Andres it's not fancy, but you can't beat the price or the people that work there. San Andres now has at least a couple places with Wifi you can use. Living on San Andres you'll find a number of issues: I don't think as an American you could possible think about getting a job there. You'll need to get Colombian residency and then you'll need to get San Andres residency. Unless you have San Andres residency you are limited to the time you can spend on the Island each year (Colombian or not). The Island is very small so unless you are into the beach you may find activities limited. I love the place... when I step out of the airport there is always a taxi driver or two that greets me by name. Though I could (and would) walk to my Hotel.

Hey there, San Andres is awesome! with a developed hotel/shopping side and a wild, untouched side too, totally Carribean in culture and direct flights from Canada etc. I know people with property there, and pretty much unlimited stay for you with no more than US passport. What exactly are you looking for? Eddie
