I think you will find rentals to be very affordable. In fact everything on San Andres Island is.The residency and work rules for San Andres are different than for the rest of Colombia. You wife cannot live or work there just because she is Colombian. She also needs to get a residency and work permit for the Island.
Although it is very inexpensive to live there, you will also find the wages to be very low.
What kind of work and wage expectations do you have? Have you visited the island?
If you have some money to invest (risk) an "American" style bed and breakfast would be great on the Island.

Thanks for the quick response. So I guess my wife will need to do some document work before she can arrive. What about me?? how long can I stay there and what about working there?? I thought maybe it might be best to do something with a local there regarding work want to do something for daily pocket money. can you rent anything long term for 500 usd per month?? and what would it be like. I have not been to the island before but have been in the caribbean for the last 20 years so know a little about what to or not to expect. Looking forward hearing from you.thanks ed and monica

Hi Ed and Monica: I am relocating to Cartagena in the near future. I will probably need to get information about the same topic at some point in time. Please contact me at mylatinwife@yahoo.com and we can stay in touch. Thanks. John Michael

"work in san andres"
I am a colombian and US citizen. I have visited San Andres previously and I am looking to stay there for the summer and try to find a job for extra spending cash. I have a msaters degree in counseling but I also have hotel, and customer service experience. Any recommendations?
