I am married to a Colombian, and at various points have contemplated retirement in Colombia. Some years ago I wrote the Colombian embassy to enquire about residency status. They advised that there would be no problem to obtain residency. We are comtemplating the idea again.

I am also married to a Colombian. We are retiring to Colombia next year. I have spoken to the Colombian Consulate, You can visit their Web Site, and down load the info concerning permanent spousal residency. The process is very easy, but requires 2 years residency in Colombia.

You will be gratified to know that some of the more egregious requirements have been eliminated. For example you don't need the notarized Police report and will not need to deal with the Apostille(Apostillados). Here are the requirements:1.Two (not three)passport pictures. 2.Valid passport or Document of Travel. 3.Fill in the application form.(You can print this form from several sites) 4.Photocopy of Passport. 5.Authenticated copy of the Marriage Certificate. 6.Written application of the Colombian spouse requesting the visa.(They even have a sample of a letter that one can use) 7.Authenticated copy of the Colombian spouse's ID.(cedula de cidadania)

I am 70 years old and am thinking about retiring in Cali, Colombia. I would be interested in purchasing a home and also am an avid tennis player. Is Cali a reasonably good selection and what would be the life style cost. Also, what are the medical costs likely to be in Colombia. Does the Medicare of the U.S. apply? Thanks a lot. Don

Hi, Hopefully someone might be able to give me some advice. My mother is a Colombian-born, now naturalized US citizen (in 1988). I was born in the US. I am interested in purchasing some property in Colombia and would like to acquire dual Colombian citizenship (or passport) as it would fascilitate some of the procedures. Am I able to claim Colombian citizenship through my mother? And if so, how do I go about it? I had a read on the embassy“s website and I thought it was a bit vague. Thanks, Raśl

I am 57 years of age and would like to retire. My income would be $1500.00 a month from both pension and social security. Would that be enough to live in Colombia?

I am the daughter of a Colombian man who now has dual citizenship for the USA. I would like to get my dual citizenship too. What is the process, how long does it take and what is required for this?

I am a married retired doctor looking for a place outside USA to settle down and live in peace. I am in need of more information about citizenship, immigration, living costs, housing costs - and security (violence and police protection). I have NO ties to Columbia - no family members. I was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands but have been an American Citizen for over 40 years.Thank you in advance, Dr. Van Beveren
