I visited Bogotá during the holidays and loved it there. I highly recommend visiting Colombia. I'm also thinking of going back, but this time to stay and live. I have two young children and I'm concerned about our safety. Someone please tell me about safety in Bogotá.

Been here for 5 years (Bogota) have lived in 13 countries and this is the BEST off all worlds!

You will love it!

I can live in the cool climate of Bogota or travel 45 minutes in be in semi-arid climate or down right hot in 90 minutes 90-100 degrees. Fly to Cartagena in 1 hour and bla bla bla..it's really nice.

Hello Everyone!

I am just back from my second trip to Colombia. I have never been out of the US and flew into Medellin for the first time last March 2004 for 7 days. I stayed about 2 hours outside in a town called Barbosa. I am in love with this place, the people and the lifestyle. I went to Medellin, rode the Metro(would put MBTA in Boston to shame). You ride beautifully kept trains, there is no smoking, drinking, eating or sleeping. They appear to be twice the size also. They have just installed a giant cable car system that is wonderful. I took a trip up to the mountains which surround Barbosa to my friend Luis's fathers ranch. I visited a 100 year old sugar cane factory on his ranch, there was such a peacefulness up there. Everywhere I went the people stand out in my mind. They take southern hospitality a step further. Everybody I met was nicer than the person before them. These people have such a respect for life and each other. It's a beautiful country from what I saw. We took a 5 day trip to the island of San Andres. I have never seen waters this beautiful in my life. The ocean, they say is 7 shades of blue and clear and the sands are white. The people of the island were so hospitable and were not pushy. Nice bars, alot of reggae music and great food. Especially the fried coconut. The boat and island tours were so comfortable, which included Morgans Cave, Johnny Cay's and the trip to the Aquarium to swim and snorkle with the fish was something I will never forget. This year I was able to take in the Semana Santa processions Easter week in Barbosa. The color and music and history of this proud tradition of these very proud people was so aweinspiring. There were no cell phones ringing off the hook, people actually stop and talk to you, no matter how many times they see you. It's amazing they drive crazy, but there are no accidents and I felt very relaxed on the road. My message to American is put down your remote controls and forget about the old movies and stereotypes about this country and the Colombian people and the whole drug problem. First of all, I know it exists but not everywhere. This is a terrible injustice and very bad stereotyping. I will go back very soon. There is a lot more to see. I have hundreds of beautiful photos and memories. They knew I was just a visitor but yet nobody stares. They are very rich and beautiful people!Be very proud to be Colombian!

In this novel I write about the Inca civilization, and the indigens of Sur and Central America; with the porpose to send a messege to my readers about a univers full of magic things, hiden to well that one have to look very carefull to apreciate. It is a trip of reality and fantasy, througth our mountains and towns, looking in special on the sacred objects, and the lost cultura of our forth fathers and and their religion.

I was born in Medellin Colombia. I have lived my entire adult life in the USA. I am grateful for the many opportunities and life style that this wonderful country has offered me. However, I plan to retire in the future in Cartagena and Medellin. I will always maintain a home in the USA, but the life that awaits me, and the affordability is too great to pass up. I have family that lives in Medellin and the negative image portrayed in the USA media is greatly exagerated.

Welcome to this beautiful country, it's people welcome you with open arms.

I've been living in Colombia for more than 4 years and I'm really pretty ready to leave now.

Colombia is full of beautiful things (women first of all) but I have to be very objective with this... I really don't like living in here. I really can't take it anymore.

People here is apparently gentle but only on the surface, especially if you're not from here people are always trying to get you into something in order to get you money.

I have many stories where I was personally involved with money loans gave to people that gave me "their words", but I had quickly realized that "take someone's word" here is nothing more than a mere word. I've lost some money here, fortunately not huge amounts but only because I have been very focused on what I was doing.

People take poverty as an excuse, what they really need is reviewing the meaning of the words responsibility, honesty and organization. The real problem of this country is the people themselves.

Drug trafficking has made people lazy and always looking for big bucks (with no work) deals, frauds and other ways to get easy money.

Beggers are in many cases perfectly sane people, often young, and kids are "rented" to other people by the parents in order to make more money.

This country is full of cons and incompetent people, any kind of work is often done with very low accuracy and labor market is cheap because of the overpopulation in major cities causes professionals and competent workers to be replaced by younger with no experience just because of low wages.

Colombia is not an organized country, it's pretty confused and driving it's very dangerous, traffic is heavy due to lack of city planning that always is due to political corruption.

Well... this is my point of view, I can't say this is paradise as others did... Sorry... I'm just being honest... This is what I feel... This is *NOT* a nice country to live in...

It's my opinion, but remember that what you like and love depends on what you're looking for in life.

Do you think loaning money to people in the USA will bring you success? I think not! hahaha.

Do you think welfare has made lazy people in the USA?

Really, I believe your commentary could be written with most any country subsistuted. Each of course with their own unique benefits and challenges.

Fortunately, many of us have the choice as to which benefits we enjoy the most and which challenges are acceptable or not.
